He offered suggestions on location and where to get our kimonos. On the day of our session, we met him at a location and he was so friendly and easy to work with. If you want to capture charming photos in the best places in Kyoto as well as have a fun and relaxed time, then Jens is the best photographer for this. My mother and I were only in Kyoto for a couple of days, and we were lucky that Jens managed to capture memories for us from such good angles and in such unique corners of Kyoto. We were surprised at how skillfully and professionally he can photograph in crowded places as if you were all alone there. We were browsing around various photoshoot options online so that we could have more photos for our wedding reception at the end of the year, and we found out about Jens through Google. Our initial plan was to have a few additional photos that we could take around the bamboo forest and the kimono forest; perhaps a few locations around the area. Jens has exceeded our expecations and beyond as his photography skills was on point and we managed to get over 60 photos that we liked among the 200+ photos that were taken on the day. On top of that, he was very knowledgeable in avoiding the crowded areas and maximising the 2 hour photoshoot session, taking us to locations that we would not have thought of if we went by ourselves. He was also an amazing person to be around as his quirky personality and friendly attitude helped us to be at ease when photos are being taken. When heading to different locations, he would often give us suggestions on food or different attractions that we could visit around Kyoto. By the end of the photoshoot, we could say that we gained a friend in the process. We loved having Jens as our photographer and if we had more time in Kyoto, we would have loved to do more photoshoots with him or just have him as a tour guide. We could not stress enough how much we would recommend him if you ever do decide to have a photoshoot in Kyoto.

My family likes to do kimono photos as a reminder of our trips to Japan. This year I wanted to do something very different and vibrant. I found @phototaiken on IG and was able to see his amazing Oiran style photography. Jens (photographer) was easy to message via IG to set up the photo shoot. Since I live in Hawaii the time difference is big and he was quick to respond to my many many many questions. The Oiran photo shoot was an enjoyable and easy going experience. We arrived at the studio and was greeted on the street by Jens who then took us to the studio. I didn’t speak any Japanese so it was great to have Jens help translate for us what the makeup and hair ladies were asking. My family of 4 had a great time taking photos and my kids said they had so much fun because the photographer was funny. Jens made them feel comfortable and also gave clear directions to assist in modeling. It took about 2 weeks to receive our photos and they turned out better than I had expected. I would recommend @phototaiken if you are ever in Kyoto and want to have photos done. Jens does outdoor or indoor photography. He also does walking tours, although we didn’t have time for that on this trip. Reach out to him for details.

The other day, as a commemoration before the contest, I was asked to take a photo for the website and advertisement. It was my first time having a professional shoot, so I was embarrassed and anxious, and I wanted to cancel until the last minute. However, when the shooting started, he created a very relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. Thanks to you, I am very happy to have taken a lot of good photos. The project I purchased this time is to rent a color card for 2.5 hours outside shooting. a very interesting place! to book in advance and choose your own plan, they offer traditional japanese style or modern lolita, all was nice. staff was professional and quick, able to communicate in Eng. they assisted me a lot from choosing the gown, dress up and all over. the photographer gave very professional advice on how to pose and set up the lightings very well. overall a very pleasant activity and must try in kyoto! the whole set of photos could be sent to email (cost to see on their website) within 2 days.

The service is professional, also the makeup artist can communicate in fluent English, the photographer can speak Chinese, there is no communication difficulty at all, the shooting process is very smooth, I have a good experience with Oiran and Kitsune yomeiri , the quality of the photos is very high.I have received all photos quickly, it's certainly worth it.

Professional photo studio with great staff and make-up artists in Kyoto. Fantastic experience for an unforgettable souvenir or carte de visite in full fantasy or traditional Meiko look! It is not the cheapest but also not the most expensive studio in Kyoto, and totally worth every cent. Once the photos are taken (including make up, about 2 hours plus whatever it takes you to change back into street clothes and make up), you have the chance to select the photographs you liked the most and even add some for an extra fair price. The retouched images were sent a few days later via email in large resolution but you can also have the images printed on site.

Highly recommended if you want to dress up Geisha or Samurai style. Central to the Gion area. Friendly and fun staff. Fantastic costumes. A lot of time to take some pictures in costume. Do it!

Those who want the ultimate kimono experience, highly recommend Gion Aya Maiko shop in Gion, Kyoto. I did the ultimate package that included photoshoots outside the shop and a 30 min walk around. Felt so pretty and special! Everyone said “kirei” as i walked by 🥲. Staff was also very warm and welcoming too! My specific wish is to include hokanji temple somehow, and they did it! Whole process lasted 3.5 hrs. They printed and processed 12 pics for us and gave us a usb with 108 pics. And also allowed my partner and their own staff (if they have time) to help us take more pics on our phones. Very nice! It is pricy, but you get what you pay for and more! It was 50k yen for my package. Worth every penny! 💕🎎 Okini!

Such a fantastic experience! Everyone is so welcoming and friendly as they have thought about everything to make your experience amazing. I did this with my 7 year old daughter and they were so kind and gentle and answered all her questions patiently. They have such a wide choice and range of kimono's and accessories. I cannot recommend enough for anyone who wants to try this, you must come to Aya.

Have a remarkable experience with the kimono shoot there. Well the whole process took about 3 hours. Staff are friendly & the cameraman is very Enthusiastic. Although there is some language barrier but google translator save the day. On the other end, they too have a translator device so is not so bad. Recommended to fill your tummy before the shoot
